1 Start with your clothes before you go outside

2 Treat the lawn edge where ticks actually wait
Ticks do not wander into the middle of a sunny lawn. They sit in the leaf litter and tall grass at the edge where your yard meets the scrub or fence line — that transition zone is where 90 percent of encounters happen. Granular bifenthrin lasts six to eight weeks in normal conditions, longer in our sandy Myakka soil because it does not wash out as fast as in clay. 3 Protect your dog before it drags ticks inside
Dogs are tick taxis. One unprotected dog can carry eight or ten ticks through your back door in a single outing.
